DUTIES AND
TAXES

Understand the difference between the two
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT?

The payment of Duties and Taxes are typically the responsibility of the receiver, although Door 2 Door does offer the opportunity for the sender to meet these costs at their origin. The sender receives an invoice after shipment delivery for the Duties and Taxes that Door 2 Door has paid on their behalf at the destination, plus a small administration fee.

Customs duty which ranging from 0% to 210% is collected on all imports. The average rate of duty is 30% - 35%. Specific rates of duty are also applicable to some items (mostly petroleum and beer). Rates are outlined in the Tariff Act 2002 which can be located at the link provided

Duties Calculated

• The calculation of Duties depends on the assessable value of a dutiable shipment.

• For the purpose of this calculation, dutiable goods are given a percentage value ranging from 0% - 210%

• This system has been assigned by the Bahamas Government and continues to evolve.

Taxation Across Borders

• Taxes are imposed on goods when they are moved from any country to the Bahamas.

• Taxes are usually associated with protectionism, the economic policy of The Bahamas.

•Taxes are usually imposed on imported goods, although at times may also be imposed on exported goods.
